Merry Christmas and Welcome to My Small world!!

I 'm so glad you could join the Ch{all}enge Masters "Jingle Bell Hop"! If you came from Renee's Blog at My Simple Life on Paper, you are on the right track! If you didn't, you may want to hop on over to the Ch{all}enge Masters Blog and start from the beginning.

Blog Hoppers are requested to visit all 22 blogs and leave a comment on each blog. After you have visited all of our blogs, just return to the Ch{all}enge Masters Blog and make one final post that you have finished the hop. To be eligible for my RAK, simply answer this question... How old were you when you discovered there isn't a Santa Clause? When I was 7 years old, I discovered the boxes for my presents from Santa in our attic. That pretty much confirmed what I already suspected!

I would like to share this tutorial with you on how to make a Finnish Star. I discovered this a few years ago at www.craftideas.com.

1. Cut 12 pieces of two sided paper. These measure 4"x1/4" because I want a small Finnish Star to put on a card. You can make them bigger, depending on how you want to use it.

2. Take 2 strips and glue them together exactly in the middle.

3. Take 2 more strips and glue them on top of the horizontal strip, one on each side of the parallel center strip. Leave a distance of 3mm between each strip. You can see where I actually drew the 3mm distance on my pad to make it easier and quicker to get the perfect spacing.

4. Take 2 more strips of paper and weave them on each side of that horizontal strip. Don't forget to measure the 3mm spacing and then glue them in place.

5. Take one of the outside stripes and flip it up so that you see the back of the paper. Got it? Easy, right?

6. Now, do the same thing to the strip that is at right angle to the first strip you flipped.

7. Glue those together. Repeat this for the other 3 corners.

8. This is what it will look like when you have finished with this part.

9. Take the remaining 6 strips of paper and repeat the steps to this point.

10. Now we are going to put the two halves together. Lay them onto top of each other with the flat sides together and the loops across from the flat strips.

11. Now you are going to lay one of the strips to the inside of the loop where it comes to a point.

12. You are going to glue it so that the straight edge of the strip is even with the point of the loop. There will be a little bit hanging over the edges, but you will cut that off. Do that all the way around the star.

13. You are done and this is what it will look like! Once you get the hang of it, these go together very quickly!

I took my Finnish Star and used it to decorate my Christmas Card.

Here are some small images of some Finnish Stars I did in 5 different sizes ranging from 4" to 12".
I stacked them on top of each other and made a Christmas Tree.
I took each star and glued it together in the center. Then I took them and again stacked them and it turned into a big ornament. Looks very cool in person!

Be A Tattle Tale

Let me tell you, I have been very busy whipping out cards and layouts for several challenges I am involved in! I have been having so much fun scrapping that I have not wanted to stop and post anything new on my blog.

One of the challenges from Challenge Masters is called Book Of Me. The purpose is to scrap about yourself (obviously). The first challenge of the book is to list 10 things about Me. I hate to sound too conceited, but I just love my layout. I didn't want to do the normal list of boring well-known facts, but wanted the quirky more humorous bits of info. The idea of doing my list in a tabloid type format came to me in the shower!!!

Quiet Contemplation

Another totally cool, totally twisted sketch from Anam at Twisted Sketches!!! The twist this week is to use a punch. Punches are again very popular and I do love using them, especially border punches!

I chose to do a heritage page with this sketch. This is my beautiful grandmother when she was about 15. This photo is over 100 years old!!!

Hasan should be Shot for Treason!

The attack on our Army servicemen at Ft. Hood, TX just angers me to the point where I can't keep my thoughts to myself!!

Military service is a badge of honor in my family and has been for many, many generations. Our servicemen are True Heroes and should be held up as such.

Our servicemen should not have any reason to fear their fellow solders.
The Department of Defense should not recruit those who are not true patriots to our country.
The Department of Defense should be more vigilant and take quicker action against those muslims who declare support for foreign entities. I don't care how politically uncorrect that sounds!

Nidal Malik Hasan, an avowed muslim, who shouted Allahu Akbar before opening fire in a closed room on unarmed solders is A TERRORIST to our country and should be Shot for Treason!

Ch{all}enge Masters is a new site that has 16 Challenge Groups such as Sketches, Photography, Book of We, Color and Kitchen Keepsake. Every month there are new challenges in each group and of course prizes!

I am tickled to death to be on the Recipe Challenge Group and today is the beginning of our challenges! woohoo!!

Twisted Sketches

I am playing catch up on my blog. I have a great reason to be a little behind because I've been traveling around Germany and France for the last 2 1/2 weeks, including 5 days in Paris!!

These are layouts that I am very pleased with that. I just love Anam's sketches at Twisted Sketches and the twists are always fun.

This is Sketch # 21 and the Twist is using Alphas. Isn't Jake just the cutest!!

Too Busy or Too Lazy to Blog!

I don't know which it is, but I have definitely been busy in my scraproom since I reorganized it. Amazing how productive I can be when I can find what I am looking for.

Anyway, I have been pumping out the cards and layouts and most of these were done because of awesome challenges at My Sketch World. I love that place! There is always fun stuff happening over there.

Blinging my Mom!

I hate to admit this in public, but I absolutely Love this Layout!!! I am so pleased the papers went so well with the photo and I love the design of the page. I'm not much on using bling, but I think it turned out pretty. I wanted this page to be special because the picture of my mother is special to me.

This layout was done for Sketch #17 at Twisted Sketches. Love the sketch! I think it's one of my favorites from Anam. The twist is to use the bling!

Love this picture that was taken at my 7th birthday party. This was taken at my Mema and Papa's house in Marianna, AR. That is my brother to the left of me. I remember that dress I am wearing because it was so cute with rows of apples on the skirt.

The photo is an 8x10 and that was a challenge to scrap.

I LOVE this layout! It features a photograph that was restored for me by Anam. She is a whiz at photo restoration. This photo was yellow and now it looks wonderful! I cried when I saw it, she did such a great job.

I did this layout and the card below using the luscious goodies from the "I am a Scrapaholic" Sept. kit, where I am this months Guest Designer. I totally lucked out with this kit, I am trying to use up every scrap of paper because it's all so pretty!

This card is from the Sept. 15th sketch at My Sketch World. Awesome sketch, isn't it!!

I love how this one turned out. It is for the Sept. 16 sketch at Twisted Sketches. The twist on this one is to use chipboard. Totally easy thing to do!

Duct Tape Works on Anything!!

I love Sketch #13 at Twisted Sketches, but the Twist sort of threw me. This weeks Twist is to use Tape. I use tape all the time on layouts, but it's usually never seen as I use it to secure stitching or ribbons. Since the challenge is To Use Tape, I decided I wanted my tape to show. Duct Tape kept sticking in my mind, so I took that thought and had fun with it. I ripped off 3 pieces of the tape, stamped on it with Staz-on, shriveled it up with the heat gun and used it behind my photo. I also used duct tape as one of the layers in the flower.

Kissing the Blarney Stone

Recently, we took a trip to the UK and Ireland. One of our stops was to see Blarney Castle. I couldn't go all that way and not kiss the Blarney Stone!! It was a cool experience!!!

Monochromatic Twist!

This week the really cool twist at Twisted Sketches is to make the layout monochromatic. Since there is so many colors in my photos, I went with yellows to compliment those colors.

Love these photos! These were taken last month in Horndean, England, where our good friends, Betty, Lily, Barbara and Trevor, live. What a memorable visit!

Anam {who totally rocks, btw!} and I were honored by having our layouts featured on the site! How exciting, because that is an amazing site full of awe inspiring talent!

This layout was actually very difficult to do. I knew without much thought what my answer was to the question, but it's still a tough place to go there.

My journaling reads, "DNR is the abbreviation for Do Not Resuscitate. The decision to put this directive in place was the hardest, most gut wrenching decision I’ve ever had to make. Mom was in failing health, suffering from Alzheimer’s, Heart Failure and a suspicious mass on her kidney. I dearly loved my Mother and wanted her to be here forever. But, God had a better plan."

I loved it so much, I did different layouts. The first one I doodled using professional quality Acrylic paint and the second one I doodled using a white pen on a transparency.

The Twisted Sketches sketch for this week is a great one that is easy and very versatile. The Twist is to use Fabric. I love using Fabric and sewed yellow fabric on my red cardstock as a background feature. I also used red and white fabric and tied it to the left of the photos.
